who is shane daniel byrne?

Shane Daniel Byrne is a Stand Up Comedian, Actor, Podcaster and Writer from Dublin City Ireland. Shane crashed on to the comedy scene in Dublin in 2018 after years working in offices and other jobs and proved to be a rare thing in the pace at which he sailed to the top. 

In 2019 he was the inaugural winner of the Rockies Champion at Cat Laughs Festival and came second place in the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? competition at Edinburgh Fringe Festival. 

Throughout the pandemic he built a name for himself making viral sketches online gaining thousands of followers in the process and appearing on TV and Radio in Ireland and abroad. He went on to be tour support for comedians like Tony Cantwell, Emma Doran, Kiri Pritchard McLean, David O’ Doherty, Catherine Cohen, Vittorio Angelone & Mike Rice. Shane has since embarked on three tours of his own shows, selling out venues all across Ireland, UK & Australia. 

Tour Shows

His début solo comedy show But He’s Gay premiered in 2023 with sold out runs in Edinburgh & Dublin Fringe Festivals with a National Tour following including two sold out nights at the iconic Vicar Street. But He’s Gay was invited to be part of the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals in 2024 where the whole run sold out with extra dates added in Sydney. 

In 2024 he toured his sophomore hour, Trouble Denim in Edinburgh Fringe Festivals with a National Tour all over Ireland. 

Shane is currently on his biggest solo tour yet with his show “Who’s A Big Boy?”. 2025 also saw his first UK tour with shows in London, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Edinburgh & Glasgow. 

He is now a mainstay at Irish Festivals with performances at Paddy Power Comedy Festival, Cat Laughs, Electric Picnic, Beyond the Pale (Resident MC), Body&Soul, Otherside, Púca Festival & Love Sensation. 

Acting, Film & TV

2026 saw Shane take on the role of Glen in These Sacred Vows alongside talent like Tom Vaughan Lawlor & Justine Mitchell. Other Appearances include Fran: The Man Forty Foot Productions, Good Boy RTÉ, LOL: Last One Laughing Prime Video, Celebrity Gogglebox Virgin Media, The Tommy Tiernan Show RTÉ. 

MC/Host/Presenter

As a TV presenter, Shane has hosted two shows for RTÉ; Queer History School & Love Bites. In 2026 he narrated Virgin Media TV’s Documentary series, Cleaning Up Ireland. 

He is an experienced event MC, hosting Dublin Pride Stage at Mother Pride Block Party; Irish Times Theatre Awards; What a Difference A Day Made; Lockdown Lols for GCN Magazine Sofft Nights Festival and The Pride Takeover on DubX Radio. In the past he hosted promotional events for Yelp.ie, Nine Crows, Dublin Youth Theatre, Bulmers Light and West Coast Cooler
